"From Graphic Designer to Drone Mentor—How Summer Fun and Learning at CODE313 Made a Lasting Impact"

This summer, Owen Rossman, Graphic Designer at CODE313, ventured beyond his usual creative role to take on an exciting new challenge: mentoring students. Owen’s experience as a drone mentor was both exhilarating and educational, and it provided valuable insights into the transformative power of hands-on learning.

At CODE313, our mission is to provide engaging and diverse learning experiences, and this summer was no exception. Owen took on the responsibility of introducing students to the fascinating world of drones, focusing not only on the technical skills needed to fly them but also on crucial aspects of drone safety. His role involved guiding students through both the fun and technical sides of drone operation, ensuring they understood how to handle the technology responsibly.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Owen’s summer role was seeing the students’ enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. It was incredibly fulfilling for him to watch the students dive into the activities with genuine curiosity and excitement. This immersive approach to learning, where students are actively engaged rather than confined to a traditional classroom setting, clearly sparked their interest and motivation.

For Owen, stepping into the role of a mentor was a thrilling opportunity to learn more about both others and himself. Although he had no prior mentoring experience, he embraced the role with enthusiasm and found it to be deeply rewarding. It allowed him to develop new skills, gain fresh perspectives on teaching and engagement, and thrive in a dynamic learning environment. At CODE313, we are incredibly thankful for everything Owen contributed during summer school. His dedication and positive impact were instrumental in creating a vibrant and engaging learning experience for our students.

What made this summer experience even more impactful was CODE313’s dedication to offering a range of fun and educational activities. Rather than spending all day at desks, students had the chance to explore their interests through various interactive experiences, with drone activities being just one of the many exciting options available. This dynamic approach to learning helps students discover and pursue their passions in a supportive environment.

In conclusion, Owen Rossman’s summer as a drone mentor at CODE313 exemplifies the power of experiential learning and the joy of seeing others thrive. His experience reinforces the value of interactive, hands-on education and highlights the importance of fostering curiosity and enthusiasm in students. Owen looks forward to more opportunities like this in the future and is grateful for the chance to contribute to the growth and development of our students in such a meaningful way.
