Let’s Talk About It Tuesday: Kimoni McDaniel in Detroit Shines This Summer


This summer, from TRIO Upward Bound Detroit (UB Detroit) Kimoni McDaniel didn’t just keep busy, he thrived. From hands-on learning to a real-world internship at CODE313,  he leaned into opportunities that are shaping his future in powerful ways.


Why Experiences Like These Matter


As UB Detroit Director Adam Harris puts it, “We believe these internships and job shadowing experiences will help TRIO scholars grow and develop into the professionals they desire to be. The vision moving forward is to create pathways for more opportunities.” And that’s exactly what this summer was all about creating pathways.


Internships that Inspire


One of those pathways led rising senior Kimoni McDaniel straight into an internship with us here at CODE313.  Gary Beaver, CODE313’s eXperience director, couldn’t have been more impressed, stating:


“Working with Kimoni has been equal parts of inspiring and fun. His dedication and creativity made it feel as though he had been a part of the CODE313 family since its inception. His sharp mind kept our work grounded and, with his sense of humor, every challenge turned into a discovery.” Talk about leaving a mark.

Kimoni’s internship with CODE313 is more than just a summer experience, it’s a launchpad. By giving students like him hands-on opportunities in STEM, CODE313 is helping bridge the digital divide while preparing the next generation of leaders.


For Kimoni, that meant gaining real-world skills, building confidence, and seeing firsthand how technology can open new pathways. For TRIO scholars across Detroit, it means knowing that spaces like CODE313 are invested in their growth and believe they belong in every room they enter. This is what CODE313 is all about: connecting scholars to opportunities that change lives and set them up for a future full of possibility.
